You have been coughing quite a lot lately, are finally becoming concerned about your health and are ready to give up smoking.

Chances are your latest effort to give up smoking is not likely to work. The truth is, most people fail to give up smoking.

However, the explanation is not what you may imagine.

The advertisements from the tobacco industry attempt to make you think that smoking is satisfying, a real delight. Everybody else who smokes truly enjoys smoking those superb tasting cigarettes.

But, let's face it. Long ago, when you took your first puff of a cigarette, you recognized that it tasted appalling. It hurt to try to draw in that appalling smoke. Your body reacted the way it should to poison by trying to expel those lethal fumes from your lungs. You coughed and felt you had inhaled a fistful of dirt.

If you'll admit it, cigarettes even now taste pretty bad.

The tobacco industry knows they taste bad and annoy your throat. So they offered an option by adding an anesthetic to some cigarette brands in the form of menthol. And menthol cigarettes are "smooth". That is, the anesthetic helps eliminate the soreness or irritation caused by the noxious tobacco smoke.

Not only do cigarettes taste bad, they're filthy. They tarnish your teeth, soot gets into your clothing and make your hair smell. Overall, you smell terrible. Your skin becomes wrinkled. You've gotten smokers' cough and are apprehensive about lung cancer.

Nevertheless, you smoke them anyhow.

The reason you will smoke another cigarette is because of the previous one. The nicotine concentration in your blood has declined and you're starting to feel short-tempered, stressed out, tired, and you might be beginning to get a headache.

You need one more cigarette to elevate the nicotine level in your blood in order to feel good, nearly as good as a non-smoker.

Non-smokers do not need a cigarette. Non-smokers already feel good. Their lungs are clean and provide lots of oxygen to feel lively. They don't feel short-tempered every couple of hours. They do not get headaches if they lack cigarettes.

It is time to confess that the lone reason you smoke those dreadful cigarettes is that you are hooked on nicotine. And, the nicotine in each cigarette you smoke alters your brain to ensure you feel worse and worse whenever you aren't smoking.

Every cigarette is digging a hole and you're sinking deeper and deeper into that hole. Every cigarette you smoke raises you up a few feet but you plummet down harder and deeper when you finish smoking. You will never rise to the level of the non-smoker who is standing at ground level looking down at you as you struggle in your hole.

It's so true. Cigarettes taste horrible. They irritate your throat. They push destructive chemical compounds into your body. They make you stink. They cause you to feel bad-tempered. There is nothing decent about cigarettes.

If you were able to go back in time and know what you know today, you in no way would have touched a cigarette.

The fact is, if you stop smoking, you won't ever give up smoking. There is nothing of any value to give up.

If you stop smoking cigarettes, you will give up the addiction to nicotine, the horrible effects tobacco soot has on both the inside and outside of your body. You will be giving up wasting tons of money for all those appalling things.

So, never give up smoking. Give up all the hideous things tied to smoking.
